Why waste precious time in scandalous talk and criticisms of others’ behaviour? Cultivating envy, malice, hatred and anger against others is an evil pastime that recoils on oneself. In every one there is resident the self-same divine spark; so cavilling at the neighbour is tantamount to cavilling at Divinity. The game of life is worth playing and becomes interesting only when there are bounds and rules which limit and control. Imagine a game of football without any rules or boundaries – it will be chaos; it will be a free fight, a riot. No one can say who wins and how. The path of virtuous conduct (Dharma maarga) is the boundary of the field, in the game of life. Play the game, paying heed to the warnings of ‘foul’ and ‘out’, and let your virtues win over the vicious tendencies within you.

பிறரைப் பற்றி அவதூறாகப் பேசுவதிலும், பிறர் நடத்தையை விமர்சிப்பதிலும் ஏன் அரியதான நேரத்தை வீணாக்க வேண்டும்? பிறர் மேல் பொறாமையும், கெட்ட எண்ணமும், வெறுப்பும், கோபமும் வளர்த்துக் கொள்வது ஒருவர் மீது திரும்ப வரக்கூடிய தீயப் பொழுதுபோக்காகும். ஒவ்வொருவரிடமும் அதே தெய்வீக ஒளிக்கீற்று உறைகிறது. உங்கள் அண்மையில் உள்ளவரைப் பற்றி குதர்க்கம் செய்வது என்பது தெய்வத்தையே குதர்க்கம் செய்வதற்கு ஒப்பாகும். வாழ்க்கை எனும் விளையாட்டு விளையாடுவதற்கு உரித்தாக்கவும், சுவாரஸ்யமாகவும் அமைவதற்கு வரம்பிற்குள்ளும் கட்டுக்குள்ளும் வைக்கும் எல்லைகளும் விதிகளும் இருக்க வேண்டும். விதிகளும் எல்லைகளும் இல்லாத கால்பந்தாட்டத்தை கற்பனை செய்து பாருங்கள் – அது குழப்பத்துடன் இருக்கும்; அது கட்டற்ற சந்தையாகவும் கலகமாகவும் தான் இருக்கும். எவராலும் யார் எப்படி வெற்றியடைவார்கள் என்று சொல்ல முடியாது. அற வழிப் படி நடப்பதே, வாழ்க்கை எனும் விளையாட்டின் களத்தின் எல்லைக் கோடாகும். விளையாட்டினை, “தவறான செயல்” (foul) மற்றும் “வெளியே செல்” (out) எனும் எச்சரிக்கைகளுக்குச் செவி சாய்த்து விளையாடி, உங்கள் குணங்கள் உங்களுள் உள்ள தீயப் போக்குகளை வெற்றி கொள்ளட்டும்.
