Once, Krishna and Arjuna were walking together, along a beautiful path. Seeing a bird in the sky, Krishna asked Arjuna, “Is that a dove?” Arjuna replied instantly, “Yes, it is a dove.” A few seconds later, Krishna asked, “Arjuna, is that bird an eagle?” Arjuna responded, “Yes Krishna, it is an eagle.” A few seconds later, Krishna asked, “Arjuna, this does not look like an eagle – it looks like a crow to me. Is it not?” Arjuna replied, “Yes Krishna, it is a crow beyond doubt!” Krishna laughed and chided him for agreeing with whatever suggestions He gave. Arjuna responded, “Krishna, for me, your words are far more trustworthy than the evidence of my eyes. When you say something, you have the power to make it so – be it a crow, dove or eagle. Hence, if you said it is a crow, it must be so!” Implicit Faith is the secret to spiritual success. Always remember that the Lord loves, not the devotee but the devotion.

ஒருமுறை கிருஷ்ணரும் அர்ஜுனனும் ஒரு அழகான பாதையில் சேர்ந்து நடந்து கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். வானத்தில் இருந்த ஒரு பறவையைப் பார்த்து கிருஷ்ணர் அர்ஜுனனிடம், “அது ஒரு புறாவா?”, என்று கேட்டார். அர்ஜுனன் சட்டென்று, “ஆமாம், அது புறா தான்”, என பதிலளித்தான். சில வினாடிகளுக்குப் பிறகு கிருஷ்ணர், “அர்ஜுனா, அந்தப் பறவை ஒரு கழுகு தானே?” என்று கேட்டார். மேலும் சில வினாடிகள் கழித்து, “அர்ஜுனா, இது கழுகைப் போலில்லை – எனக்கு அது ஒரு காக்கை போல் தோன்றுகிறது. இல்லையா?”, என்று வினவினார். அர்ஜுனன், “ஆமாம் கிருஷ்ணா! சந்தேகமே இல்லை – அது ஒரு காக்கை தான்!”, என்று கூறினான். கிருஷ்ணர் சிரித்துக் கொண்டே, தான் சொல்வதையெல்லாம் ஒப்புக்கொள்வதற்காக அவனைக் கடிந்து கொண்டார். அர்ஜுனன், “கிருஷ்ணா, என் கண்ணைவிட எனக்கு உன் சொற்களின் மேல் நம்பிக்கையுள்ளது. நீ ஒன்றைக் கூறினால், காகமோ, புறாவோ அல்லது கழுகோ அதனை அவ்வாறே மாற்றக் கூடிய சக்தி உன்னிடத்திலுள்ளது. ஆகையால், நீ காகம் என்று கூறினால், அது அவ்வாறு தானே இருக்க முடியும்!”, என பதிலளித்தான். ஐயமற்ற நம்பிக்கை என்பதே ஆன்மீக வெற்றிக்கான இரகசியமாகும். கடவுள் பக்தியின் மேல் அன்பு கொண்டுள்ளார், பக்தனின் மேலல்ல என்பதை என்றும் நினைவில் கொள்ளுங்கள்.

Be steady, make a firm resolution. Do not commit one fault or take a false step and then repent. Be very intentional, faithful to your resolve, every single day. Before you act, deliberate and make a decision. That is better than taking a weak step and regretting and losing the way. In the Mahabharatha, Arjuna had the foresight to pause and think about the consequences of the war even before the battle began. So he asked Lord Krishna to advise and guide him. Hence, take every step in spiritual practice, or in your day to day affairs, only after deep deliberation and satisfying yourself that it will be for your good and well-being. Reason out, discriminate; do not rush to conclusions or be led away by mere hearsay.

நிதானமாக இருந்து, உறுதியான சங்கல்பம் கொள்ளுங்கள். ஒரு தவறான அடியை எடுத்து வைத்து, பின்னர் வருந்தாதீர்கள். ஒவ்வொரு நாளும், உங்கள் சங்கல்பத்தின் பால் மனமாரவும், நேர்மையாகவும் இருங்கள். செயல் புரியும் முன், நன்றாக யோசித்து முடிவெடுங்கள். ஒரு உறுதியற்ற அடியை எடுத்து வைத்து, வருத்தப்பட்டு, முழுப் பாதையையும் தொலைப்பதைவிட இது மேலானதாகும். மஹாபாரதத்தில், போர் துவங்கும் முன்னதாகவே அதன் விளைவுகளைப் பற்றி அர்ஜுனன் யோசித்தான். அதனால் தான் அவன் உபதேசம் பெறுவதற்காக ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணரை நாடினான். ஆகையால், ஆழ்ந்த சிந்தனைக்கு பிறகு, அது உங்களுக்கு நன்மை பயக்கும் என்று உங்களைத் திருப்திப்படுத்திக் கொண்ட பிறகே ஆன்மீகப் பாதையிலும் உங்கள் தினசரி செயல்களிலும் ஈடுபடுங்கள். ஆராய்ந்து, பகுத்துப் பாருங்கள். விரைவாக எந்த முடிவும் எடுக்காதீர்கள். பிறர் சொல்வதைக் கேட்டுத் தவறிவிடாதீர்கள்.

Egoism is the most dangerous illusion that has to be exploded and destroyed. Arjuna too suffered this ego. One day when Krishna brought the chariot back to camp, Arjuna wanted that like all charioteers, Krishna should get down first and open the door of the chariot for him. Krishna refused and insisted that Arjuna should alight before He does. At last Krishna won and Arjuna got down. As soon as Krishna left His seat and touched the ground, the chariot went up in flames! The fact was that the various fiery arrows that had the power of burning the chariot had actually hit the target, but due to the presence of Krishna, their igniferous powers could not manifest themselves. Realising this, humbled Arjuna; his egoism had a rude shock. He also realised that every action of Divinity was full of significance.

அஹங்காரம் என்பது வெடித்து அழிக்கப்பட வேண்டிய மிகவும் ஆபத்தான ஒரு மாயையாகும். அர்ஜுனனும் இந்த அஹங்காரத்தினால் தவித்தான். ஒருநாள் கிருஷ்ணர் தேரை கூடாரத்திற்கு எடுத்து வரும் பொழுது, அனைத்து தேரோட்டிகளைப் போல் கிருஷ்ணரும் தான் முதலில் இறங்கி தேருடையக் கதவை அவனுக்காகத் திறக்க வேண்டும் என அர்ஜுனன் கோரினான். கிருஷ்ணர் அதற்கு மறுப்பு தெரிவித்து அர்ஜுனனே தான் இறங்கும் முன்னர் இறங்க வேண்டும் என்று வலியுறுத்தினார். கடைசியில் கிருஷ்ணர் வென்று அர்ஜுனன் கீழே இறங்கினான். கிருஷ்ணர் தன் இருக்கையிலிருந்து இறங்கி, தரையைத் தொட்டவுடனேயே தேர் தீக்கிரையானது! காரணம் என்னவென்றால், தேரைத் தீக்கிரையாக்கும் பல பொறி பறக்கும் அம்புகள் தம் இலக்கை சரியாகத்தான் தாக்கியிருந்தன. ஆனால், கிருஷ்ணர் அதன் மேல் இருந்ததால், அவற்றின் எரிக்கும் சக்திகள் அவற்றிலிருந்து வெளி வராமல் இருந்தன. இதனை உணர்ந்த அர்ஜுனன் பணிவடைந்தான்; அவன் அஹங்காரத்திற்கு ஒரு பலத்த அதிர்ச்சி ஏற்பட்டது. தெய்வத்தின் ஒவ்வொரு செயலும் பூரணமான உள்ளர்த்தம் கொண்டுள்ளதை அவன் உணர்ந்தான்.
