Desire makes one crave for sabdha (sounds), sparsha (touch), rupa (form), rasa (taste), gandha (smell) – the qualities of the five Elements that constitute the body. One is prompted by the element of Space present within to seek sweet sounds that satisfy the ear; by the element of Air within, to run after smooth and soft things that yield pleasure to the skin, by the element of Fire to pursue things that are beautiful and appealing to the eye; the Water element makes one crave for food and drink that are tasty to the tongue, and the element of Earth urges one to cater to the nose, by trying to enjoy pleasant smells. Just as the high temperatures from the Sun is controlled, modulated and reduced by the systems in your body to a congenial temperature of 98.4 degrees, you must keep the forces of your elemental passions in check and bring it down to tolerable levels, for congenial living.

Divinity expresses itself infinitely as the five elements – the sky, the wind, the fire, the water and the earth. All creation is but a combination of two or more of these in varying proportions. The characteristic nature of these elements are sound, touch, form, taste and smell, cognized by the ear, the skin, the eye, the tongue and the nose. All the elements are abundant in Nature and are precious and potent with Divinity. So use them in moderation, reverentially, with humility and gratefulness. Excessive or inappropriate usage will injure your well-being just as drinking more or less water than needed is a torture. Inhaling more air is suffocating. Fire in moderation can warm or serve to heat and melt, but beyond a certain limit, it is a holocaust. Even excessive use of sound will distract people and drive them crazy. Hence, learn to use the natural resources intelligently, in moderation, with the idea of loving service to all in the community.

ஆகாயம், காற்று, நெருப்பு, நீர் மற்றும் நிலம் ஆகிய பஞ்சபூதங்களின் மூலம் பற்பல வடிவங்களில் தெய்வீகம் தன்னை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறது. படைப்பனைத்தும் இவற்றின் கலவையே. செவிகள், தோல், கண், நாக்கு மற்றும் மூக்கு ஆகியவற்றால் உணரப்படும் ஒலி, உருவம், ஒளி, சுவை மற்றும் மணம் ஆகியவை இவற்றின் இயல்பான குணாதிசயங்களே. இவையனைத்தும் இயற்கையில் அதிகான அளவில் உள்ளன. இவை மிகவும் மதிப்பு வாய்ந்தவை, தெய்வீகம் நிறைந்தவையாகும். ஆகையால் இவற்றை மிதமாகவும், மரியாதையுடனும், பணிவுடனும், நன்றியுணர்வுடனும் உபயோகப்படுத்துங்கள். எவ்வாறு தேவைக்கு அதிகமாகவோ குறைவாகவோ நீரைப் பருகினால் அது சித்திரவதையாக இருக்குமோ, அவ்வாறே இவற்றை அளவுக்கு அதிகமாகவோ தேவையில்லாமலோ உபயோகப்படுத்தினால் அவை உங்களுக்கு ஊறு விளைவிக்கும். அதிகமான அளவில் காற்றை சுவாசித்தால் மூச்சடைக்கும். நெருப்பு அளவாக இருந்தால் இதமாகவும், சுட வைக்கவும், இளக்கவும் பயன்படும். ஆனால் ஒரு அளவிற்கு மேல் அதுவே பேரழிவாக மாறிவிடும். அளவிற்கு அதிகமான ஒலியும் கூட மக்களின் கவனத்தைச் சிதரடித்து அவர்களைப் பைத்தியமாக மாற்றும். எனவே புத்திசாலித்தனமாகவும், மிதமாகவும், சமுதாயத்திற்கு சேவை செய்யும் மனப்பான்மையும் கொண்டு இயற்கை வளங்களைப் பயன்படுத்தக் கற்றுக் கொள்ளுங்கள்.

In the Geeta Lord Krishna emphatically told Arjuna,”Many people anxious to offer uninterrupted worship to God, desire to go into the thick forest; this is an insane step. There is no need to seek the jungle as if I am only there. There is no place where I am not; there is no form which is not Mine. I am the five elements: earth, water, fire, air, ether! Where can you find a place devoid of one or other of these five? The fiery nature of fire is I Myself; I am life in all living beings. I am the strength of the strong, the strength that is free from greed and lust. To experience My presence and My glory, there is no special place, for I am everything, everywhere, ever.”
