People who wish to check the quality of gold, draw a line with it on a piece of stone and assess its quality by examining that streak. The test that will reveal the quality of your faith is whether you are practising sincerely the injunctions laid down by God. Your beliefs and actions must be expressions of faith. They must have holiness as their core. They must be so full of love and compassion that they attract to you the grace of God. Such karma (actions) is what is advocated through karma kanda of Vedic scriptures. It is the taproot of human progress, the very breath of happy human existence, the food that alone can allay the hunger of people and the life-sustaining water that can cure their thirst. Therefore the first and continuing duty is to engage oneself in activities that are taught or approved in the Vedas. Three types of activity reach God and earn His grace:
- Activity not prompted by personal desire
- Activity emanating from unselfish love and
- Prayer arising from pure hearts.

தங்கத்தின் தரத்தை சோதிக்க விரும்பும் மக்கள், அதன் மீது ஒரு கல்லைக் கொண்டு ஒரு கோட்டினை வரைந்து, அதன் தரத்தை அந்தக் கோட்டைப் பார்த்து மதிப்பிடுவார்கள். உங்கள் பக்தியின் தரத்தை வெளிப்படுத்தும் சோதனை, நீங்கள் கடவுள் அளித்துள்ள கட்டளைகளை நேர்மையாகக் கடைப்பிடிக்கிறீர்களா என்பதே ஆகும்! உங்கள் நம்பிக்கைகளும் செயல்களும் பக்தியின் வெளிப்பாடாக இருக்க வேண்டும். அவை புனிதத்தைத் தம் உட்கருவாகக் கொண்டிருக்க வேண்டும். கடவுளின் அருளை உங்கள்பால் ஈர்க்கும் அளவிற்கு அவை அன்புடனும் கருணையுடனும் ததும்ப வேண்டும். வேத நூல்கள் இவ்வாறான கர்மாக்களையே (செயல்களையே) கர்ம காண்டத்தின் மூலம் பரிந்துரைக்கின்றன. அதுவே மனித முன்னேற்றத்தின் ஆணிவேராகவும், மானிடம் மகிழ்ச்சியாக வாழ்வதற்கான உயிர்மூச்சாகவும், மக்களின் பசியைப் போக்கிடும் உணவாகவும், அவர்களின் தாகத்தைத் தணித்திடும் ஜீவாதாரமான நீராகவும் உள்ளது. எனவே, ஒருவருடைய முதன்மையான தொடர்கடமை வேதங்கள் போதிக்கும் அல்லது அங்கீகரிக்கும் செயல்களில் தன்னை ஈடுபடுத்திக் கொள்வதே ஆகும். மூன்று வகையான செயல்கள் கடவுளை அடைந்து உங்களுக்கு அவருடைய அருளைக் கொடுத்திடும்:
- தனிப்பட்ட சொந்த அன்பினால் உந்தப்படாத செயல்
- தன்னலமில்லாத அன்பினால் தோன்றும் செயல் மற்றும்
- புனிதமான இதயங்களில் தோன்றும் பிரார்த்தனைகள்.

In the dark night, the Moon can be seen through its own light only. The Lord is all Love, so He can be seen only through Love. He is Sathyam and Nithyam (Truth and Eternal), and is beyond all falsehood (Mithya). When the dust settles upon the glass of the lantern, it dims its light. Attachment to sensual objects and to the pleasure they give (Vyamoha) is the soot that dims the light of love in your heart. Remove the delusion and the fact that you have become old or diseased, or that you are weak and debilitated. Do not count the years and grieve over advancing age and shudder like cowards afraid of death. Remember, despondency is hell, elation is heaven. Have always some work to do and do it so well that it grants you joy!

நள்ளிரவில் நிலவை, அதன் ஒளியின் மூலம் தான் காண இயலும். கடவுள் முழுதும் அன்பால் நிறைந்துள்ளார். ஆகையால் அவரை அன்பின் மூலம் தான் காண முடியும். அவர் சத்யம் மற்றும் நித்யமானவர் (உண்மை மற்றும் சாஸ்வதமானவர்). அவர் பொய்மைக்கு (மித்யத்திற்கு) அப்பாற்பட்டவர். விளக்கின் கண்ணாடிக் கூட்டின் மேல் தூசி படியும் பொழுது, அது அதன் ஒளியைக் குறைக்கிறது. புலன் சார்ந்த பொருட்களின் மீதும், அவை அளிக்கும் சுகங்களின் (வ்யாமோஹத்தின்) மீதும் உள்ள பற்றுதல் தான் உங்கள் இதயத்திலுள்ள அன்பின் ஒளியைக் குறைக்கும் புகைக்கரிக்கறையாக உள்ளது. மாயையையும், வயோதிகம் அடைந்துள்ளோம், வியாதியால் பீடிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளோம், பலவீனமாக உள்ளோம் அல்லது தளர்ந்துள்ளோம் என்ற எண்ணத்தையும் விலக்குங்கள். வருடங்களைக் கணக்கிட்டு, வயது முதிர்வதைக் கண்டு துயருற்று, கோழைகளைப் போல் மரணத்தைக் கண்டு அஞ்சிடாதீர்கள். மனச்சோர்வு நரகம் என்பதனையும், குதூகலம் ஸ்வர்க்கம் என்பதனையும் நினைவில் கொள்ளுங்கள். செய்வதற்கு எப்பொழுதும் ஏதாவது ஒரு வேலையை வைத்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள். அதனை உங்களுக்கு மகிழ்ச்சியூட்டும் வகையில் நன்றாகச் செய்யுங்கள்.

Spend your time in the contemplation of the beauties of Nature that are spread out before you in the earth and sky. Enjoy the green expanses of the crops, cool breezes that waft contentment and joy, the panorama of coloured clouds, the music of the birds, etc. Sing the glory of God as you walk in Nature, along the bunds of the fields and the banks of the canals. Avoid polluting the air with vengeful boasts. Do not spend time in hateful talks when you see God has created such wonderful evidences of love! Living in these placid surroundings, you should not disturb the sky with your shouts and curses. Any seed needs water and manure to grow and yield a rich harvest. So too, the tiny sapling of spiritual yearning for liberation from bondage also needs water and manure. Just as a wise farmer will care for his crops dearly, you must take care of your habits to reap the harvest of liberation.

நிலத்திலும், ஆகாயத்திலும், உங்கள் முன் பரந்து விரிந்திருக்கிற இயற்கையின் வனப்பை எண்ணிப்பார்ப்பதில் உங்கள் நேரத்தைச் செலவிடுங்கள். பயிர்களின் பச்சை விரிப்புகளை, மன நிறைவையும் மகிழ்ச்சியையும் அளிக்கும் குளிர்ந்த தென்றலை, வண்ணமயமான மேகங்களின் பரப்பை, பறவைகளின் இசையை அனுபவியுங்கள். வயல் வரப்புகள், கால்வாய் கரைகள், ஆகிய இயற்கைச் சூழலில் நீங்கள் நடந்து கொண்டிருக்கையில் கடவுளின் புகழைப் பாடுங்கள். உங்கள் வெறித்தனமான தற்புகழ்ச்சியால் காற்றுமண்டலத்தை அசுத்தப்படுத்தாதீர்கள். கடவுள் இம்மாதிரியான அன்பின் சான்றுகளை அளித்திருப்பதைப் பார்த்த பின்பும் கூட நீங்கள் வெறுப்புணர்ச்சியைத் தூண்டும் பேச்சுகளில் நேரத்தைச் செலவிடாதீர்கள்! இம்மாதிரியான அமைதியான சூழல்களில் இருந்து கொண்டு, உங்கள் கத்தல்களாலும், சாப வார்த்தைகளாலும் ஆகாயத்தின் அமைதியைக் குலைக்காதீர்கள். நன்றாக வளர்ந்து, நல்ல படியான விளைச்சலைத் தருவதற்கு எந்த விதைக்கும் நீரும், உரமும் தேவைப்படுகிறது. அதே போல, பற்றுதலிலிருந்து விடுதலை பெற வேண்டும் என்கிற ஆன்மீக விழைதல் எனும் இளஞ்செடிக்கும் நீரும் உரமும் தேவைப்படுகிறது. எவ்வாறு ஒரு புத்திசாலியான உழவன் தன் பயிர்களைக் கவனமாக பார்த்துக் கொள்கிறானோ, அவ்வாறே மோக்ஷம் எனும் நல்ல விளைச்சலை அடைய வேண்டுமெனில், நீங்களும் உங்கள் பழக்கவழக்கங்களை கவனமாகப் பார்த்துக் கொள்ள வேண்டும்.

If there is a boil on the body, we put some ointment on it and cover it with a bandage until the whole wound heals. If you do not apply the ointment and tie a bandage around this boil, it is likely to become septic and can cause greater harm later on. Now and then we will have to clean it with water, apply the ointment again and put on a new bandage. In the same way, in our life, there is this boil which has come up in our body in the form of ‘I, I, I..’. If you want to really cure this boil, you will have to wash it every day with the waters of love, apply the ointment of faith on it and tie the bandage of humility around it. The bandage of humility, the ointment of faith, and the waters of love will cure the disease that has erupted with this boil of ‘I.’

உடலில் ஒரு கொப்பளம் இருந்தால், அதன் மேல் நாம் ஒரு களிம்பைப் பூசி (ஆயின்மென்ட்), அந்த முழுப் புண்ணும் ஆறும் வரை ஒரு கட்டு போடுகிறோம். நீங்கள் களிம்பைப் பூசாமல், அதன் மேல் கட்டு கட்டாமல் விட்டால், பின்னர் அது அழுகி, பெரும் தீங்கு அளிக்க நேரிடலாம். அவ்வப்போது அதனை நீரால் சுத்தம் செய்து, மீண்டும் களிம்பைப் பூசி, ஒரு புதிய கட்டைக் கட்ட வேண்டும். அதே போல, நம் வாழ்விலும், ‘நான், நான், நான்..’, என்ற உருவில் நம் உடலில் தோன்றியுள்ள ஒரு கொப்பளம் உள்ளது. நீங்கள் உண்மையில் இந்தக் கொப்பளத்தைக் குணப்படுத்த விரும்பினால், நீங்கள் அதனை அன்பு எனும் நீரைக் கொண்டு தினந்தோறும் கழுவி, அதன் மேல் நம்பிக்கை எனும் களிம்பைத் தடவி, பணிவு எனும் கட்டை அதனைச் சுற்றி கட்ட வேண்டும். பணிவு எனும் கட்டு, நம்பிக்கை எனும் களிம்பு மற்றும் அன்பு எனும் நீர் ஆகியவை இந்த ‘நான்’ எனும் கொப்பளத்துடன் தோன்றிய நோயைக் குணப்படுத்தும்.

Every being needs love, every being inhales and exhales Love. Love is the very breath of life; each and every one of you are embodiments of Love. Love knows no fear, and so, love needs no falsehood to support it. It is only fear, that makes people warp the face of truth, to make it pleasant for those whom they fear. Love seeks no reward, love is its own reward. Even a small trace of greed for gain (vishaya vasana) degrades love into a bargain over the counter. Love removes all egoism; the self is transcended, forgotten and superseded when there is love. When such pure Love is directed towards the Lord, it is called Bhakthi (Devotion).

ஒவ்வொரு ஜீவனுக்கும் அன்பு தேவைப்படுகிறது. ஒவ்வொரு ஜீவனும் அன்பையே மூச்சாக சுவாசிக்கின்றது. அன்பு உயிர் மூச்சாகும்; உங்களில் ஒவ்வொருவரும் அன்பின் வடிவங்களே. அன்பு பயமறியாது. ஆகையால், அன்பு பொய்யைச் சார்ந்திருப்பதில்லை. பயம் தான், தாம் கண்டு அஞ்சுபவர்களுக்கு இனிமையாக இருப்பதற்காக, உண்மையை மறைக்கிறது. அன்பு எதனையும் எதிர்பார்க்காது, அன்பே அதன் பரிசாகும். இலாபம் என்ற ஒரு சின்ன பேராசையின் சுவடு அன்பில் தென்பட்டாலும் அது அன்பை வியாபாரம் ஆக்கிவிடும். அன்பு அனைத்து அகந்தையையும் நீக்குகிறது. அன்பு, நான் எனும் உணர்வை கடக்க வைத்து , மறக்க வைத்து , அதற்கப்பால் இட்டுச் செல்கிறது. அப்படிப்பட்ட புனிதமான அன்பு கடவுளின் பால் செலுத்தப்பட்டால் அதுவே பக்தி ஆகிறது.
