People seek frantically for peace and happiness in a thousand ways along a thousand roads. Real peace is to be got only in the depths of the spirit, in the discipline of the mind, in faith in the One base of all this seeming multiplicity. And the joy of that experience, the profound exhilaration which accompanies it cannot be communicated in words. All shravanam and kirthanam (hearing and singing God’s names) is to take you nearer that experience. Shravanam is the medicine that you take internally and kirthanam is the balm you apply externally. Both are needed. Develop devotion to the Lord using as many means as possible. Your mind and the intellect must be trained and controlled, that is the sole aim.

This Asthipanjaram (skeletal cage or body) is the Hasthinapuram, where we have the blind king, Dhritharaashtra, the symbol of ignorance as well as Yudhishthira, the symbol of wisdom. Let the forces of Yudhishthira win, with the help of Shri Krishna, the Lord. Let the tongue that is accustomed to the bitterness of the neem fruit of worldly triumphs and disasters taste the honey of Namasmarana (Remembering the Lord’s Name). Experiment with this for some time sincerely and steadfastly and you will be surprised at the result! You can feel a significant improvement in peace and stability in you and around you. Learn this easy lesson, get yourself immersed in joy and let others also share that joy with you.

Live in truth, you will then experience Divine Bliss. Faith in God promotes love. Love leads to peace. Peace prepares the way for truth. Where there is faith there is Love, Where there is Love there is Peace, Where there is Peace there is Truth. Where there is Truth there is Bliss, Where there is Bliss there is God. The Divine manifests Himself in many forms and is worshipped as such, for the joy to be derived from it. Truth is one, regardless of nation or religion. The names and forms of human beings may vary, but the Supreme in them (Sath-chith-ananda) does not vary. It is eternal and changeless. Embodiments of Divine Love! Strike down the walls that separate man from man. Get rid of differences based on caste and creed. Develop firm faith in the oneness of Humanity. Cultivate love in your hearts. Then nations will be united, prosperous and happy.

நீங்கள் உண்மையில் வாழ்ந்தால் தெய்வீக ஆனந்தத்தை அனுபவிப்பீர்கள். கடவுளின் மேல் கொள்ளும் நம்பிக்கை அன்பை வளர்க்கிறது. அன்பு அமைதிக்கு இட்டுச் செல்கிறது. அமைதி சத்தியத்திற்கு வழிவகுக்கிறது. நம்பிக்கையிருக்கும் இடத்தில் அன்பிருக்கிறது. அன்பிருக்கும் இடத்தில் அமைதியிருக்கிறது. அமைதியிருக்கும் இடத்தில் சத்தியமிருக்கிறது. சத்தியமிருக்கும் இடத்தில் ஆனந்தமிருக்கிறது. ஆனந்தமிருக்கும் இடத்தில் கடவுள் இருக்கிறார். இறைவன் பல உருவங்களில் தோன்றுகிறார். அதன் மூலம் பெறப்படும் மகிழ்ச்சிக்காக அவர் அவ்வாறாகவே வணங்கப்படுகிறார். எந்த தேசமாக இருந்தாலும், எந்த மதமாக இருந்தாலும் சத்தியம் ஒன்றே. மனிதர்களின் பெயர்களும் தோற்றங்களும் வெவ்வேறாக இருந்தாலும் அவர்களுள் இருக்கும் பரம்பொருள் (சத் சித் ஆனந்தம்) வேறானதில்லை. அது முடிவில்லாத்தது, மாறாதது. ஒரு மனிதனை மற்றொரு மனிதனிடமிருந்து பிரிக்கும் சுவர்களைத் தகர்த்திடுங்கள். சாதி மத பேதங்களை விட்டொழியுங்கள். மனித சமுதாயத்தின் ஒற்றுமையில் திட நம்பிக்கை கொள்ளுங்கள். உங்கள் இதயங்களில் அன்பை வளர்த்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள். அவ்வாறானால் தேசங்கள் ஒற்றுமையாகவும், செழிப்பாகவும், மகிழ்ச்சியாகவும் இருக்கும்.

When the seven colours of the spectrum come together, the effect is ‘no colour’; when they stand apart, the seven colours can be separately identified. The betel nut is brown, betel leaf is green and the chunnam (slaked lime) is white, but when you chew these three together, your tongue becomes red. When the three blades of a ceiling fan revolve fast enough and no blade is separately noticeable, they give cool comfort. So too only when the different qualities of Sathwa, Rajas and Thamas are unrecognisably integrated, one can be happy. When the three gunas are equated in saadhana (spiritual practice), the result is peace. The lamp is the sathwa guna, the wick is the thamo guna and the oil is the rajo guna. When all the three are integrated, they give the light of wisdom, which illumines.

நிறமாலையின் ஏழு வர்ணங்களும் ஒன்றாகக் கூடினால், வர்ணமே இல்லாமல் போகிறது. ஆனால், அவை தனித் தனியாக இருந்தால், ஏழு வர்ணங்களையும் தனித் தனியாகக் காணலாம். பாக்கு பழுப்பு நிறத்திலும் (ப்ரௌன்), வெற்றிலை பச்சை நிறத்திலும், சுண்ணாம்பு வெள்ளை நிறத்திலும் உள்ளன. ஆனால் இம்மூன்றையும் நீங்கள் ஒன்றாகச் சேர்த்து மென்றால், உங்கள் நாக்கு சிவப்பாகிவிடும். மின்விசிறியின் மூன்றுத் தகடுகளும் சேர்ந்து ஒரு தகடு கூடத் தனியாகத் தெரியாதவாறு வேகமாகச் சுற்றினால், அது குளுமையான சுகத்தை அளிக்கும். அதே போல, சத்வ, ரஜோ, தமோ குணங்கள் தனித் தனியாகப் புலப்படாதவாறு ஒன்று சேர்க்கப்பட்டால், ஒருவர் சந்தோஷமாக இருக்கலாம். இம்மூன்று குணங்களும் ஆன்மீக சாதனையில் ஒன்று சேர்க்கப்பட்டால், அமைதி கிட்டும். விளக்கு சத்வ குணமாகும், திரி தமோ குணமாகும், எண்ணெய் ரஜோ குணமாகும். இம்மூன்றும் ஒன்று சேர்க்கப்பட்டால், ஒளிர்விக்கும் ஞான ஒளியை அவை அளிக்கும்.

If your thoughts are centred around the body, you will have worries of pains and illnesses, real or imaginary. If they are centred on riches, you will be worried about profit and loss, tax and exemptions. If they roam round fame, then, you are bound to suffer from the ups and downs of scandal, calumny and jealousy. So let them centre round the seat of power and love which deserve willing submission – the Name of the Lord. Let your whole being surrender to it. Then you will be happy forever. For the sages of the Vedic culture, the Name of the Lord was the very breath; they lived on the sustenance, which contemplation of the Lord’s glory provided. God is the very embodiment of Love. He can be won only through Love.

With a little reasoning you can know for yourself the path you need to take, thereafter, it can be trodden step by step until the goal is reached. Whatever be the path, retain this knowledge that attachment causes pain and detachment results in joy. But you cannot easily detach yourself from activity; the mind clings to something or other. Make it cling to God, let it do all things for God and leave the success or failure, the loss and the profit, the elation or the dejection, to God. Then you have the secret of peace and contentment. To get this attitude of surrender and dedication, you must have Faith in God. God, whose play this world is. This world is not an empty dream; it has a purpose and use. It is the means by which one can discover God. See Him in the beauty, the grandeur, the order and the majesty of Nature.

The second is the very basic unit of Time which we measure, in what we designate as a year. Sixty seconds, make a minute, sixty minutes make an hour, twenty four hours constitute a day and thirty days make a month; twelve months pass and we say a year has passed! When twelve months are over, we come back again to the first in the list of months, and call it the New Year Day. We go on a spree to celebrate the occasion. Really speaking, nothing new has happened on the “New Year Day” – it is not the year, but every second that follows the present that is new. Hence, do not wait for the celebration of something new in Time, until minutes, hours, days, months and years add up! Celebrate the immediately succeeding second, and every one after it, through honest effort and attain everlasting joy. Do not waver in your determination to live in joy and peace.

நாம் ஒரு வருடம் என்பதில், வினாடி என்பது நேரத்தை அளக்கும் அளவீடுகளின் அடிப்படையாக உள்ளது. அறுபது வினாடிகள் ஒரு நிமிடம் ஆகின்றன, அறுபது நிமிடங்கள் ஒரு மணி நேரம் ஆகின்றன, இருபத்திநான்கு மணி நேரங்கள் ஒரு நாளை அமைக்கின்றன, முப்பது நாட்கள் ஒரு மாதம் ஆகின்றன, பன்னிரண்டு மாதங்கள் கடந்தால் நாம் ஒரு வருடம் கழிந்துவிட்டது என்கிறோம்! பன்னிரண்டு மாதங்கள் முடிந்ததும், மாதப் பட்டியலில் முதல் மாதத்திற்கு வந்துவிடுகிறோம். அதனைப் புத்தாண்டு தினம் என்கிறோம் நாம். அந்த நிகழ்வை வெகு விமரிசையாகக் கொண்டாடுகிறோம். உண்மையாகச் சொல்லப்போனால், “புத்தாண்டு தினத்தில்” புதிதாக எதுவும் நிகழ்வதில்லை. வருடம் இல்லை, நிகழ்காலத்திற்குப் பிறகு தொடரும் ஒவ்வொரு வினாடியுமே புதியது தான். ஆகையால், நேரத்தில் நிமிடங்களும், மணிகளும், நாட்களும், மாதங்களும், வருடங்களும் கூடிய பின்னர் கொண்டாடுவதற்காக பொறுத்துக் கொள்ளாதீர்கள்! நேர்மையான முயற்சி கொண்டு உடன் தொடரும் வினாடியைக் கொண்டாடுங்கள், அதன் பின் தொடரும் ஒவ்வொரு வினாடியையும் கொண்டாடி, நிரந்தர மகிழ்ச்சியை அடையுங்கள். மகிழ்ச்சியுடனும் அமைதியுடனும் வாழ வேண்டும் என்கிற உறுதியில் சலனப்படாதீர்கள்.

மனம் புத்தியின் சேவகனாக வேண்டும், புலன்களின் அடிமையாக அல்ல. பகுத்தறிந்து, தன்னை உடலிலிருந்து விலக்கிக் கொள்ள வேண்டும். புளியம்பழம் எவ்வாறு பழுத்தபின் தனது ஒட்டிற்குள் தளர்ந்துவிடுகிறதோ அவ்வாறே மனமும் இந்த ஓடாகிய கூடாகிய உடலுடன் பற்றில்லாமல் இருக்க வேண்டும். நீங்கள் பழுக்காத பச்சை புளியங்காயை ஒரு கல்லினால் அடித்தால் அதனுள் உள்ள பழச் சதைக்குத் தீங்கிழைப்பீர்கள். ஆனால் இதையே பழுத்த பழத்திற்கு செய்தால், என்ன ஆகும்? அந்தக் காய்ந்த ஓடு விழுந்துவிடும். உள்ளே உள்ள பழச் சதையையோ விதையையோ அது பாதிக்காது. பழுத்த சாதகன் விதியின் அடியையோ சந்தர்ப்பங்களின் தாக்குதலையோ உணர்வதில்லை. பழுக்காத மனிதனே ஒவ்வொரு அடியினாலும் புண்படுகிறான். அவ்வாறே உங்கள் அஞ்ஞானம் உங்கள் சுயமுயற்சியாலேயே விழுந்துவிட வேண்டும். அது உங்களுக்கு பரிசாகவோ அதிசய நிகழ்வாகவோ கிடைக்காது. பொய் மற்றும் அநியாயத்துடனான உங்கள் சுயப்போராட்டத்தினால் கிடைக்கும் சத்தியம், ஆனந்தம் மற்றும் அமைதி உங்களது நிலையான பொக்கிஷங்களாக இருக்கும்.
