Great sages of the past, filled with immense sympathy for their fellowmen, laid down rules, regulations, limits and directions for daily life and conduct, so that one’s hand and brain, instincts and impulses may not turn against another, but may turn towards the ideals of Truth, Righteousness, Peace and Love. They declared that every action must be weighed in the balance and approved only if it cleanses the emotions and passions; it has to be cast aside if it curdles or fouls them. Bhaavashuddhi (purification of mental disposition) should be the fruit of every action. The worship of idols, rituals, vows and fasts, festivals and holy days – all these are designed to tame the wildness and train one to tread the straight path to self-realisation.

தமது சக மனிதர்களின் மேல் ஆழ்ந்து பரிதாபப்பட்டு, முற்கால மாபெரும் முனிவர்கள், ஒருவரின் கையும், மூளையும், உள்ளுணர்வுகளும், உந்துதல்களும் ஒன்றோடொன்று மாறாக நடக்காமல், ஒன்றாக சத்தியம், தர்மம், சாந்தி மற்றும் ப்ரேமையின் பால் இயக்கப்படுவதற்கு, தினசரி வாழ்க்கையிலும் நடத்தையிலும் பின்பற்றுவதற்கு சட்டங்களையும், வரம்புகளையும், செயல்முறைகளையும் வகுத்துள்ளனர். ஒவ்வொரு செயலும் நன்றாக எடை போடப்பட்டு, உந்துதல்களையும் நாட்டங்களையும் தூய்மைபடுத்தினால் மட்டுமே செயல்படுத்தப்பட வேண்டும் என்றும், அவற்றைத் திரித்து, அவற்றிற்குத் தீங்கு விளைவித்தால் அவை ஒதுக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்றும் அவர்கள் பிரகடனம் செய்தனர். ஒவ்வொரு செயலின் பலனும் பாவசுத்தியாக (மனநிலையைத் தூய்மைப்படுத்துதல்) இருக்க வேண்டும். வழிபாட்டுத் திருவுருவங்களும், சடங்குகளும், நேர்த்திக் கடன்களும், நோன்புகளும், பண்டிகைகளும், புனித நாட்களும் இவையனைத்தும் முரட்டுத்தனத்தை சாந்தப்படுத்தி ஒருவரை சுய அறிதலின் நேரான பாதையில் செல்ல பழக்குகிறது.

When happy news is heard, the heart is elated. But when we listen to something sad, the heart shrinks with sorrow. Similarly, the heart gets enraged when the ears hear harsh words about you, and you are filled with joy when you listen to words of praise. What is responsible for these varied responses, though all the words are heard by the same ears? The ears are inert (jada) and are incapable of any reactions by themselves. The responses of joy or sorrow are related to the contents of the messages conveyed by the ears. Given this, ask yourself, how can the operations of these senses be deemed as Sathya (Truth or Reality)? When the senses are unreliable, the reactions and experiences produced by them are equally unreliable. Enquiring along these lines, one can overcome sorrow.

சந்தோஷமான விஷயத்தைக் கேட்டவுடன் இதயம் பெருமிதம் கொள்கிறது. ஆனால், துக்கமான விஷயத்தைக் கேட்டால், இதயம் துயரத்தினால் வாடுகிறது. அதே போல, உங்களைப் பற்றியக் கடுமையான சொற்கள் உங்கள் செவிகளில் விழுந்தால் இதயம் சினம் கொள்கிறது. உங்களைப் பற்றிய பாராட்டுக்களைக் நீங்கள் மகிழ்ச்சியில் மூழ்குகிறீர்கள். ஒரே செவிகளால் கேட்கப்படும் சொற்களுக்கு இப்படிப்பட்ட வித விதமான எதிர்செயல்கள் ஏற்படுவதன் காரணம் என்ன? செவிகள் ஜடமானவை, அவை தாமாகவே எதிர்செயல் புரியாது. சந்தோஷமும் துயரமும் செவிகள் மூலம் பெறப்படும் செய்திகளுக்குச் சம்பந்தமானவை. இவ்வாறிருக்கையில், புலன்களின் செயல்கள் எவ்வாறு உண்மையானவையாக இருக்க முடியும் என உங்களையே கேட்டுக் கொள்ளுங்கள்! புலன்களே நம்பகமில்லாமல் இருக்கும் பொழுது, அவை ஏற்படுத்தும் எதிர்செயல்கள் மற்றும் அனுபவங்களும் கூட அதே போன்று நம்பகமில்லாதவையாகத் தான் இருக்க முடியும். இவ்வாறாக ஒருவர் விசாரம் செய்தால் துயரத்தை வெற்றி கொள்ளலாம்.

People are blinded by the objective world and they believe that world to be real, meaningful and worthy of pursuit. The cataract grows in the eye and robs it of its efficiency. Ignorance is the cataract of the inner eye. It hides the true vision and blinds the intellect such that one cannot see that Divinity is their real nature. Ignorance misleads you and makes you believe that you are an ordinary human (manava), when in reality you are God (Madhava). Of what use is the eye, when the vision is not correct? You have focussed too long on riches, status, children, relatives, fame and standard of living. All of these are of minor interest and momentary value. Fix your urge on the Truth, Eternal, the Real, the Pure and Immovable (Nithya, Sathya, Nirmala and Nischala) – the Divinity present within you and around you.

மக்கள் இந்த பௌதிக உலகத்தினால் குருடாக்கப்பட்டு, அதனை உண்மை என்றும், அர்த்தமுள்ளது என்றும், பின்பற்றத் தக்கது என்றும் நம்புகிறார்கள். கண்புறை கண்ணில் வளர்ந்து அதன் செயல்திறனைக் குலைக்கின்றது. அஞ்ஞானம் தான் உட்கண்ணின் புறை ஆகும். அது உண்மையான பார்வையை மறைத்து, தம் உண்மை இயல்பான தெய்வீகத்தை ஒருவரால் பார்க்க முடியாதவாறு புத்தியைக் குருடாக்குகிறது. அஞ்ஞானம் உங்களைத் தவறாக வழிநடத்தி நீங்கள் உண்மையில் கடவுள் (மாதவன்) தான் என்று இருக்கையில் நீங்கள் ஒரு சாதாரண மனிதன் (மானவன்) என நம்ப வைக்கிறது. பார்வை சரியாக இல்லாவிடில் கண் எதற்கு? நீங்கள் வெகு காலமாக செல்வங்கள், அந்தஸ்து, பிள்ளைச் செல்வம், உறவினர்கள், புகழ் மற்றும் வாழ்க்கைத் தரம் ஆகியவற்றின் மேல் கவனம் செலுத்தியுள்ளீர்கள். இவையனைத்தும் அற்பமானவை, நிலையில்லாத மதிப்பு கொண்டவை. சத்தியமான, நித்தியமான, நிர்மலமான, அசையாததான (நித்ய, சத்ய, நிர்மல, நிஸ்சல), உங்களுள்ளும், உங்களைச் சுற்றியும் உள்ள தெய்வீகத்தின் பால் உங்கள் உந்துதலை நிலை நிறுத்துங்கள்.

A glowing electric lamp can be compared to Prema (Love). For the lamp of love to burn, there should be a bulb, which is Shanthi (peace). The electric wire connected to the bulb is Dharma (Right Conduct). The current flowing into the wire is Sathya (Truth). Thus, the lamp of love glows and sheds its light, using all other human values. Sathya, Dharma, Shanthi and Prema constitute a single whole and not separate values. All the four values have to be adhered to equally. Prema must express itself in professional life too. Develop the feeling that all in your place of work – managers, workers and others are members of one family. Develop fraternal feelings towards all. With mutual love and regard, harmony can be achieved even in one’s profession.

ஒரு ஒளிரும் மின்விளக்கை ப்ரேமைக்கு ஒப்பிட முடியும். ப்ரேமையின் விளக்கு ஒளிர்வதற்கு, ஓர் மின் குமிழ் விளக்கு இருக்க வேண்டும். அதுவே சாந்தி. குமிழ் விளக்கை இணைக்கும் மின் கம்பியே தர்மம் ஆகும். மின் கம்பியினுள் பாயும் மின்சாரமே சத்யம் ஆகும். ஆகவே, மற்ற அனைத்து மனித விழுக்காடுகளையும் பயன்படுத்திக் கொண்டு தான் ப்ரேமையின் விளக்கு ஒளிர்ந்து, வெளிச்சம் அளிக்கிறது. சத்யம், தர்மம், சாந்தி மற்றும் ப்ரேமை முழுமையாகவே உள்ளன, தனித்தனியாக அல்ல. நான்கு விழுக்காடுகளுமே சமமாகப் பின்பற்றப்பட வேண்டும். ஒருவரது தொழிலிலும் ப்ரேமை வெளிப்படுத்தப்பட வேண்டும். உங்கள் பணியிடத்தில் – மேலாளர், தொழிலாளி, மற்றவர்கள் ஆகிய அனைவருமே ஒரே குடும்பத்தின் அங்கத்தினர்கள் எனும் உணர்வை வளர்த்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள். அனைவரின் மேலும் சகோதரத்துவத்தை வளர்த்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள். பரஸ்பரப் ப்ரேமையும் மதிப்பும் கொண்டு, ஒருவரது தொழிலிலும் கூட இணக்கம் ஏற்படுத்த முடியும்.

While you should develop the habit of saving money in a bank for the sake of old age and rainy days, you must also start the habit of making deposits in the Spiritual Bank, so that you can truly be ‘saved’. The currency and metals accepted in the Divine Bank are Truth, Love and Right Conduct. All words, feelings, actions, thoughts ringing with purity of these metals will be gladly accepted as deposits. So, as you take care of your savings deposit in the many worldly banks, you must make it a point to have an account and grow it in the Bank of the Divine too. When you are hard-pressed for money, you approach your bank seeking loans. The bank will help you, but only in proportion to your deposits. Similarly your Divine Banker will save you from distress and grief very quickly if you have deposited with Him the wealth of Truth, Love, Right Conduct and Peace.

முதுமைக்காலத்திற்காகவும் மழைக்காலத்திற்காகவும் நீங்கள் பணம் சேமிக்கும் பழக்கத்தைக் கடைப்பிடிப்பதுடன், நீங்கள் உண்மையிலேயே “save” ஆகுவதற்காக அதாவது காக்கப்படுவதற்காக தெய்வீக வங்கியிலும் சேமிக்கத் துவங்க வேண்டும். சத்யம், அன்பு மற்றும் தர்மமே தெய்வீக வங்கியில் வாங்கிக் கொள்ளப்படும் பணமும் உலோகங்களும் ஆகும். இந்த உலோகங்களின் தூய்மையுடன் உள்ள அனைத்து சொற்களும், உணர்வுகளும், செயல்களும், எண்ணங்களும் இந்த வங்கியில் சேமிப்பாக மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் வாங்கிக் கொள்ளப்படும். ஆகையால், உலகின் பல வங்கிகளில் உங்கள் சேமிப்புகளை பத்திரப்படுத்தும் நீங்கள் தெய்வீக வங்கியிலும் ஒரு கணக்கை வைத்துக் கொண்டு அதனை வளர்க்கவும் வேண்டும். உங்களுக்குப் பணம் மிகவும் தேவையான தருணத்தில் கடன் பெறுவதற்காக நீங்கள் வங்கியை நாடுகிறீர்கள். உங்களின் வைப்புத் தொகைக்கு ஏற்றவாறே வங்கி உங்களுக்கு உதவும். அதே போல, உங்கள் தெய்வீக வங்கியாளரும், நீங்கள் அவரிடம் சத்யம், அன்பு, தர்மம் மற்றும் அமைதியைச் சேமித்திருந்தால், வருத்தத்திலிருந்தும் துக்கத்திலிருந்தும் உங்களை வெகு விரைவில் காப்பாற்றுவார்.
